17 Hacks to Speed Up Your Dishwashing. 11 Hacks to Make Yourself Happy, 21 Hacks to Design Like a Pro…**I don’t know that these articles, but I know that these are articles. At the very least, they’re a Twitter draft with 3 helpful things and 4 lines of bullshit, because, hey, one piece of powerful advice won’t cut it.
I don’t get out of bed in the morning for less than 7 ways to do something.
We’ve completely lost our way on what a hack is or means or does. I suppose this is the byproduct of the internet age; where non writers are writing and researchers are…dead? I don’t know.
In fairness:
What do we want?
Attention!
When do we want it?
Now!
is the rallying cry of the past decade or more, so whatever works.
In reality, Hackers, are people who like to use trial and error to uncover something they didn’t know before. They are the ones that leaver the rest of us, I suppose, with a hack. The alternative is being a hack, which looks something like writing an article about hacks when you haven’t done any hacking.
We’ve all been a little guilty of it. And look, if you want to find 5 ways to get that cat piss smell out of your carpet, by all means, but if it has to do with your craft. With something that you care about…be a hacker. Don’t look for hacks.
You owe it to the rest of us to be a hacker. Your perspective and creativity aren’t born until you start hacking. And we need that. We don’t need a rewording or reimagining of an answer we already have. We need your thoughts. We need your blood, sweat, and tears.
For my part, this little corner of the internet, will be a place where I share my hacking. And, hopefully, some examples of me becoming a better designer and creator.
It’ll be a little rough around the edges.
It’ll be a playground. And sometimes, I’ll fall off the monkey bars.
But sometimes, if I can be a hacker, I’ll make it all the way to the end. I’ll do that cool flip at the end that everyone always told me not to try.
If I’m lucky, I’ll find that world beating feeling you get when you land it.
